How prevalent erectile dysfunction

Patients come to doctors to receive complaints of violation of erection, often ask the question: “How often erectile dysfunction?”. That question is difficult, and easily. The simple answer usually is: “Well, as you surely know from the newspapers and other media, erectile dysfunction found one in four men older than 40 years”, etc. etc. In the same spirit. Actually, not so simple. The difficulty lies in the fact that, despite the huge number of sociological and medical research in this field the exact answer to the question about the prevalence of erectile dysfunction has been received and that’s why.
First, not every man is inclined to discuss their sex life with strangers.
Secondly, the number of patients have a satisfying their sex life despite the problems with erection, that is of questioning or survey, they view themselves as healthy.
And thirdly, the very nature of sociological research in this area can not give a complete picture precise answer to the question about the prevalence of erectile dysfunction.
For example, the famous German urologist Hartmut Porst wrote in one of his books : “For all sorts of data in Germany there are about 10 million men with erectile dysfunction. However, when trying to determine the source of this information, its trace is lost in the jungle of secondary and pseudo-scientific literature. ”
Nevertheless, studies on the prevalence of erectile dysfunction is not terminated and research data are regularly updated. Today’s most rigorous research in this issue is held in 2010 in the U.S. “Program for the Study of aging men in Massachusetts (MMAS)». In the course of this program was subjected to questioning 1,709 people aged 40 to 70 years. As a result of processing of the data yielded the following figures: minimal erectile dysfunction, which in principle do not interfere with live more or less a full sexual life were detected in 17% of respondents, moderate violations, which have a significant influence on the quality of sexual life are found in 25% of respondents and the complete impotence – 10%. Thus, disturbances of erection of different severity were detected in 52%   men.
In real terms this means that 18 million American men have a place of erectile dysfunction of different severity. Needless to say, the figure is huge! In this case the obtained data clearly show that the prevalence and severity of erectile dysfunction is strictly correlated with age, while not a sign of very old age.
High injury of the male population (common are injuries of the pelvic bones, which resulted in very often suffer from blood vessels supplying the penis), alcoholism and smoking of low-quality varieties of tobacco. In addition to these three causes of common risk factor for erectile dysfunction is psychological stress, which leads to a depressed mood, reduced sex drive in men and as a consequence – the development of erectile dysfunction. As a result, more than 30% of the male population over age 50 have pronounced erectile dysfunction, and the age of 60 complete impotence occurs in 25% of men. These dismal. But with the advent of “Viagra“, in our opinion, this alarming statistics can change for the better.
